You can be around snakes. Salmonella is only transfered through their feces.
All kinds of things can carry diseases.

Yes, you do want to talk to your doctor. Its not just the type of bacteria they carry, it is probably more about what they feed on and what they "poop" out.
Most snakes feed on dead mice, rats, or some sort of dead animals which carry diseases, and other types of bacterias, even if they are raised in a pet store. It really doesn't matter.
Just the same as you shouldn't be 'changing cat litter' when your pregnant, you probably shouldn't be changing out a snakes cage either.
More than likely your O.B. isn't going to know a lot about snakes and mice, they are more concerned with toxoplasmosis (which comes from cat feces)
To be on the safe side, if you need to handle a snake, use some kind of disposable gloves and don't injest (breath in) any of the dander from the snakes living envioronment until you find out from your doctor or local veteranarian.

Ok why do you want to be around snake when you are pregnant
as for me I would just not take the chance
if it your job (because you work for a zoo or a special pet store )
But other wise just stay away from them

You don't want to handle snakes or any other reptiles - they run the risk of carrying salmonella.
