sex...seriously...my wife is due in three weeks and our OB said that intercourse or her having an orgasm can trigger labor. And I thought it only triggered pregnancy!
If you don't dialate ot efface you will be induced. They can insert a medication into your cervix that starts the process, and then they give you oxytocin thru an IV. It's not a scary process..very common place. Both my kids were induced.

Well, first of all, the average length of pregnancy worldwide is 42 weeks, so your body just might not be ready yet.

In addition, dilation and effacement before labor are not good predictors of how your labor will progress.

You can be 4cm dilated 80% effaced for a month or go from 0 to baby. There's a wide range of normal.

If you are not experiencing any complications which have your care provider considering a medical induction, then let that baby cook.

It will know when it's ready.

If you are facing a potential medical induction,
then some of the following methods can be used:

1. Sex-The prostaglandins in semen help the cervix to soften and ripen.

2. Walking-Gravity is your friend-it helps the baby drop and can aid in dilation/effacement

3. Nipple stimulation-a guide for this is found at http://www.givingbirthnaturally.com/nipple-stimulation-to-induce-labor.html

4. Herbs to induce labor-black and blue cohosh as well as red raspberry leaf tea: a guide is here at http://www.givingbirthnaturally.com/herbs-induce-labor.html

5. Acupressure points-a guide here at http://www.givingbirthnaturally.com/acupressure-to-induce-labor.html

As I said before, if there are no complications, then don't worry about inducing labor. Babies don't know what due dates are;-)

I bet you are feeling on edge now. With my first i had a show at week 39 but that was only sign. At 39+5 i went to midwife and she said have sex so i did and a few hours later she was well on her way. My second baby now at 34 weeks is so different and and getting imminent signs every day he is soon to come. If you go 42 weeks and no sign or baby the doctors will break your waters or you will have a vaginal pessary to soften your cervix. You can also have a membrane sweep done too at 40 weeks. Good luck, it wont be long now!! :)

When i was pregnant mine didn;t come until 12 days after my 40 weeks so they tend to come when they are ready despite how u feel. It's definitely good to walk around but if you have a yoga ball try lightly bouncing on this for a few hours each day help to bring the baby down and get into position faster.sex does help too but may be uncomfortable /hard at this stage other than this all you have is time sweety but i wish you good luck and congrats on your babe.P.S. most doctors can't tell about dilation until labour has begun. If you don;t dialate before the overdue 10 days you could be asked to come in for induced labour like myself and even this took 2.5 day using 3 different types of inducements/

the only thing that could happen is that you are over due in your pregnancy and walking helps out alot it helps you to dialete and everything. at night keep your feet elevated and stuff.

The baby will come when it's ready, and if it waits too long they will do a c-section.

I've heard from countless sources that sexual activity of any type can put you into labor- also, jogging if you're up to it.
