Yeah...I think you should talk to your doctor about it and find out why it is happening.
Also, I found a website on light periods that is informational.

Lets just assume there's something going on that could render you unable to have kids for the rest of your life.
And you are sitting there waiting because "you will eventually go to the doctor when they can fit an appointment".
Girl, get your head on straight and take some action.

On occasion it can be related to stress or pregnancy. Since it has occured for over two years, I am guessing not pregnancy but I would make sure. Other than that just stress or reduced hormones. You already said it in your question, only a doctor could say for sure.

Every woman is different, hun.. I have a girlfriend I've known 1/2 my life, I still keep in touch with, who told me here recently that she went through menopause in her 30s!! I'm in my mid 40s, and going through "Perimenopause" so, anything is possible, hun.. I've heard of women, going through menopause in their late 20s.. So for you to get light days, shouldn't be anything to worry about!! Its when you cant stop the bleeding that you'll definately have to worry about!! I Had a miscarriage, when I was 24, actually I had 2 of them, but this one particular one, I had lost so much blood the doctor wanted me to have a "Blood Transfusion" and my (then husband) wouldn't hear of it, because he was afraid of Aids! Anyone in my family would have flown to our town, to give me their blood, in a heartbeat!!! There's atleast 3 of them that are A-Positive, as I am!! So, I had to sleep alot to get my energy back, instead.. So, I wouldn't worry until your period's are super heavy, and long one's!!! Be happy there light ones, I mean hey its a break, atleast for you, right?!!! Smile, and Good Luck to you hun!!!

this is called the unstable menstrual cycle due to the unstable hormone level in your body. unstable hormone is usually caused by stress or the food that you eat. There are hormone medicine like Progyluton that can stabilize your levels of hormone and your menstrual will be normal again....you can consult your doctor about that....

It might be normal but i would go to the doctor. It is most likely a unbalanced level of hormones.
