I'm Brazilian and I wonder why are African-American males so aggressive. I don't see that with African-Brazilians. Maybe it's because they suffered a lot with prejudice back in the days, with separate bathrooms and stuff...but that's over. African-Americans have just as many opportunities as White Americans.
African-Brazilians don't even have their own tv channel (like BET or the now-defunct UPN) but there's not negativity, we all get along. So....why is that?

They're taught at a young age to be "eternal victims" so that's why they constantly have a chip on their shoulder and make up half of the prison population in the U.S. despite being a 12% minority...

Hope this helps.

The African-American experience is a unique one. The stain of slavery in America carries a lot of baggage. Our aggression is one the strong characteristics that survive and endured because of the affects of slavery, especially in the South. Racial segregation is officially over but not necessary prejudice. Even in your own statement you refer to yourself as a Brazilian (not Italian Brazilian or Spanish Brazilian or even European Brazilian) but Brazilians of African decent are referred to as African-Brazilians.

African-Americans have come a long way in America and have brought civil rights enjoyed all other minorities in America. Many African-American males were made to suffer physical injury and emotional injury for over 200 years in America. Even though slavery was over technically in 1865, African-Americans, especially the males, still suffered for almost another 90 years (even though the expectation was full and equal American citizenship).

African-Americans have many more opportunities than they did over 150 years ago but still have a long way to go when you speak in terms of total African-American population. Having BET TV programming does not make up for over 200 years of being lead to believe you are inferior in terms of intelligence, beauty, and character.

Look at the recent Hurricane Katrina incident and how it unveiled the harsher reality of race in America.

It will take time and effort to totally turn America into the place it claims to be and African-Americans will be a part of it, aggressively.

I can't agree with you anymore.Even African males ( i mean those who did not endure slavery) are totally different from African-Americans.African-Americans are thought to be aggressive to survive which is misunderstood for violence. It hurts that my fellow African descendants are quitters. Our fellow African males are learning to use the easiest way to succeed,"freeloading." The only thing African-Americans see as a non sell out is being dumb and aggressive. You would wonder why a black bright student would get all the hatred from his/her fellow blacks, because she/he is acting "white."
being aggressive does not curb laziness.
I am a proud black, but the attitude of fellow African-Americans did help years, and isn't helping now so why don't parents teach their children to be smart "white" even if that is a sell out? We can be as best as the rest of the human races. We now have some opportunities like whites,so why don't we take advantage of them and stop hiding in our holes?

You can't compare Afro-Brazilian males to African American males. Not all African American males are aggressive. You're buying into the stereotype of the angry Black male. There are still things that hold back Black males in our society, such as poverty, crime, home upbringing, and you have police racial profiling Black males all the time. When you become an American or live in America long enough you might truly understand these circumstances.

I knew someone on here would crying about slavery and oppression, these ended years ago and is something they never had to endure but yet they still use it as an excuse for their entitlement mentality and uncivilized behavior.

Really people it is 2007 if you can't act like people at least quit using that slavery oppression excuse you never had to endure and take responsibility for your actions.

But the answer as to why they are so aggressive is, in the jungle it is kill or be killed and we haven't fully domesticated them yet frankly I think teaching most of them manners and civility would be like teaching a dog to drive.

Well being African American I know and understand that the basis of anyone's knowlegde and training comes from your home. So, I know that my brother was taught to be more aggressive towards everything in order to get what you need for your family.

effects of post-slavery U.S. - it is so sad. the reason that slavery is so immoral is because of what it does to a race. it does not stop with the the abolition - its effects continue and last throughout generations. peoples views towards blacks have caused an insecurity, a defensiveness, a rebellion against all things suposedly white - including positive things such as education. it is a vicious cycle. What I can say is that we have all evolved from one man. Our race and color of skin is attributable only to melanin and our tribal proximity to the sun. pigmentation was an adaptation for survival. culturally we are human and we all have tendencies to cope whether good or bad - alcoholism, depression, violence, - these have no race and no culture. they are human conditions. we are no different.

here we go again....some of you foreign people need to stop trying to find a reason to look down on US blacks because all of these opportunities that you have when you get here are due to the **** that our parents and some of our grandparents went through.. you all need to realize that you all are reaping the benefits of what our people went through, I am sick and tired of others trying to tell black folks that everything is cool now and just forget about the past, and if African-Brazilians don't have their own channel, it's their own damn fault for not starting one, because after all we do all have the same opportunities right?

Alot of African Americans have a tendency to behave with a sense of entitlement.......like"My great grandpa 7 times removed did a whole sh*tload of work,so I think I'll just sit back and let you finish up!...Oh and kiss my *ss while you're at it!"..This is the major attitude of alot of African Americans,Sad but true.

What's wrong with being aggressive, all Black men are not aggressive, some are shy and weak. I think a lot of father's teach their sons to be aggressive because of this racist society we live in. Also some live in rough areas and that's how they have to be to survive.

You are right.

Most African American males tend to be the most agressive of Black males universally because of what they have had to endure.

I mean... when all you see is hate over and over and over again!!what do you think will evenually happen???

But you are right in your assumption
