I just bought a marine tube worm, I thought it was an anemone until the guy dug it up and sold it to me. now its in my tank and I don't know if I should burry it or if it will do it on it's own. The part that goes under the sand is purple and the "top" looks like an anemone with pink tentacles. the name of this worm would be apreciated as well.

never buy under pressure, next time I will go back when I have more time and ask the proper questions before I buy.

I agree with copper head on this one. Chances are it is a feather duster and you will have to burry them.

Remember if you have certain star fish in your tank, like a chocolate, they will eat your feather duster.

This could be one of two organisms, a feather fuster/feather worm/fan worm (http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=1633) or a tube anemone (http://www.marinedepotlive.com/tube-anemone--colored----ceranthus-membranaceus-inverts-anemones.html).

If it's the last one, some are difficult to keep alive. These need large tanks (40+ gallons). It will bury itself, and also "uproot" it self and move around as it pleases. It will sting anything it reaches, including corals that can't move to protect themselves: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/tubeanem.htm. These aren't symbiotic with clownfish and will eat them given a chance.

If it's a feather worm, you will have to bury the tube, or prop it between pieces of live rock/rubble so the fan can open toward the direction the water is coming from and it can feed - these are filter feeders and should be kept in mature tanks.

If it is a feather duster, you would know it, They retract into there tubes very quickly when scared or tuched and they look just like there name implies.
You should burry it a little but i have had a couple of them actualy abandon there tubes and pop up in a new tube at a new address LOL
If they are not happy, they can move.
