This sentence isn't *in* the passive voice. "Someone who agreed with the views of abolitionism and protested slavery was called an abolitionist," would be passive voice.
Your sentence is a main clause with a relative clause ("who...slavery"). The main clause is "An abolitionist was someone." That's active voice, the same way "An apple is juicy," is active voice.

Passive: tells you what someone is like or what they would do
Active: says exactly what they do
In parentheses is what makes it passive or active:
An abolitionist (was someone who agreed) with the views of abolitionism and protested slavery.
OR
An abolitionist (agreed) with the views of abolitionism and protested slavery.
Notice that the first sentence says what they would do, while the second sentence says what they actually do.

Abolitionists are those who agree with abolitionism and protest slavery.
-Just a hint...when something is passive it usually because you aren't stating something exact or you use the past tense, etc. So in your sentence the problem is An abolitionist was someone.
Hope this helps!

I believe that this is an appropriate answer:
Abolitionists agreed with the views of abolitionism and protested slavery.
The key is to change the subject from the receiver of the verb (in this case, "was") to the doer of the verb (Which, after being changed, is "Agreed"). Hope this helps.

The first response is a good revision. A trick to help avoid passive voice is to look at the sentence and try to eliminate any versions of the verb "to be" such as "is", "am", "was" etc.
By removing the "was" in the original, the first commentor changed the sentence to an active voice.
