Excellent question which in my opinion depends on the individual and what experiences they had to endure; suffering, trauma and all the hurt in the world that affects the heart is not always good to bring to light, it can backfire. I believe it can make a person stronger to deal with spiritual matters like a deeper understanding of themselves and why the experiences occured and learning from them. The light can heal but try not to get burned in the process.

The past is only painful if the truth was hidden in the first place.
The truth always finds its way out...and the truth sets you free because you have a clear picture and understanding of why something happened the way it did. That does help in healing.

Sometimes, not always. Some things are best left in the past. No use opening up old wounds. But if it's festering drag it out and solve the thing.

Hello, yes very much so, the more you deal with your past the better you can deal with it and move on from the pain from that. It's very hard I use to live in the past up until about 4 years ago and I still have past issue's that I need to deal with but you have to take baby steps and deal with one thing at a time until you know that your strong enough and that, the pain is never going to bother you again because it is the past, the past will never be forgotten but needs to be dealt with otherwise it effects the rest of our lives. Somethings are very painful but we have to live it, like it and laugh it up so that we can live as who we are not who we feel like we are.

Have a good one.

depends on what it is..whether it is something that is affecting your life, and who it will affect....usually if it's not going to help you or anyone you are close too, why bring it up...if you feel you would feel better getting it out of you, then by all means do, like I was raped, and kept quiet for years, and didn't realize I was doing things like getting fat and such, till I brought it out in the open and then it made sense why I was doing the things I was doing....sometimes, it heals, and sometimes, it can make things worse, just depends on who and what it is, what happens if you bring it out, why you bring it out, and if it's affecting you or someone then yeah, it can heal, but, it may destroy someone too..you have to be careful, and let the pro's help you decide...and just go with your gut...

Not always. The reasons why vary with the event in the past, and with those involved in the event. Each person is different, each person deals with things from their past in different ways.

NO, it always makes me feel worse & awkward when someone does this to me. Aargh. Can't change the past. Write about it, vent about it, forgive, & move on. Life is too short.

Nope. Put it on the back burner, put a lid on it, and forget it. Get out of it, get over it, and get on with it.
I think Ozzy Osborne said it best when he was talking about going to rehab / AA meetings... "why would a one-legged man want to go to a room full of other one-legged men week after week and talk about how they lost their legs?"
