As an adult, do you still engage the criticisms and judgments of your parents and/or super ego the same way today? What do you do (if anything) to get unstuck from these childhood patterns?

I fought back, but subconsciously I accepted it. My mother was "super mom" (now I know why she is this way) and my father was the opposite: he had so much potential but not able to be successful. She wanted me to be perfect while my father, b/c he could not succeed, drew out my imperfections. I remember once he told me that I was stupid and worthless. Well, I believed it b/c I thought I was. But, b/c of that, I wanted to prove him wrong and excel. Of course, now when I look back, in a way I'm grateful for what happened, but I was depressed for a long time b/c of it.

Now I'm a parent and I try to be more positive, but sometimes I see myself repeating what they did. I think you never really become unstuck. The best thing you can do is understand yourself, your past and be aware of your actions as they occur. It is a work in progress!

I fought back and then finally left when I was 16. Now that I am 40, I have nothing to do with my parents. I have my own little family and I'm very happy and content.

I'm still a kid...so I can't answer your second question.
I accept my parent's judgements and criticism if I find them to be correct.
I fight back if I see ignorance in their answers. And I fight back until I get my point across. I don't scream or anything...but I do fight back.

My father from day one always thought he was Mr. Perfect, and he knows it all, but being older now, he has nothing over me now, I'm my own person, and really-I just throw things right back in his face, now my mom on the other hand, God Love her, she's a great woman
