This has to do with emotions. I tend to overthink things sometimes, I think. Like in sad movies whenever something sad happens I imagine how I would feel if I was that person, I imagine what they're thinking how this event will affect them and I put into detail every aspect of the person and their personality and their history with the thing they lost so it feel as if I am feeling the pain they are feeling. Of course not to the extent a real person would be feeling it, but my reactions are usually more deep than others. Like some person would be like "oh, that's sad" but I'd start crying audibly. I do it with books too.

Is that weird? Is that normal? Does anyone else do that?

That's not weird at all. It simply shows that you're a sensitive person. I do something similar. Whenever I watch a horror movie and someone gets killed I always think about how sad that character's mother is going to be, or something like that. Also, certain cartoons, which were intended to be funny, have been known to make me cry openly for one reason or another. I say it's perfectly normal and I don't think you should feel weird because of it, because you're so not the only one.

Just a thought: have you ever considered a career in acting? You might be good at it if you can put yourself in a character's shoes. Again, just a thought. :)

Maybe you're just "artsy." As long you can tell the difference between the movie and your life, it's okay. The people who make movies have to care about what they do or it won't be good, and they want other people to care about it too.

For the record, I have worked in mental health since 1987 and I never heard of anybody getting treatment because they get emotional about movies. We have had people have delusions about celebrities; that they know them, or they're married to them and so on, but that's a completely different thing.

My mom does the same thing. I'ld like to be able to do that because u enjoy a movie or book more. You also get to understand what the person is going through. Very helpful if a friend is feeling kinda depressed.

Some would say your empathic. The exact same thing happens to me but I've learned to control them. Sometimes I just let them go and enjoy them. It may seem weird but I get something out of bad feelings also. Not that i like feeling them, maybe its a release after its gone.

There's nothing wrong with your feelings. You are obviously an empathetic person. I hope you considera a career in a service field, such as nursing. Or if you have talent in that area, consider a writing career. You are not weird. You are special, and I mean that in a good way.

That is normal and shows that you have empathy for the character and the situation they are going through. It shows that you are more in tune with the actual story. May be that due to your ability to see more of the whole picture that you too may one day be a writer.

What you are describing sounds like super strong empathy. I think there are lots of people who have this sort of thing in various degrees. It's a wonderful, sensitive quality that can sometimes be hard to live with, but it is normal.

Peace!

It's so not weird, in fact, it's a gift.
Yes, it's empathy, but it's also called sympathy....
You could become a very accomplished actress---Meryl Streep is like this, she actually "becomes" the person she's playing, that's why she's won so many awards and is in wonderful movies.....

Hm...At least I don't think that's a problem. I kinda do what you described, but just a little less than you, as in the crying. I'm kinda weird, I don't cry much at movies.
