When someone who's permanent in your life but is intimidating, how do you keep yourself from feeling sick to your stomach just being in the same room with that person?

First.........you quit letting them intimidate you. They'll continue to do so because you let them. Best of luck to you.

My question would be why they are a permanent feature in your life - if you're an adult you can make the choice to get out of the situation and that is what you should do. If you are a child however that is very different. I speak from bitter experience here and you have described the feelings perfectly. These days, unlike when it happened to me, there are phonelines and associations set up to help children in these intolerable situations, so take advantage of that. If you are an adult however, do what you have to d to get out ofthe situation. You will not find the strength to deal with this overnight and maybe you never will. It really annoys me when people say "stand up for yourself" etc, they have no idea of what being seriously intimidated does to a person. I wish I had better news for you but all I can do is advise you to get the hell away from this person by any means possible and allow yourself to rebuild your confidence and get your nerves on an even keel. I SEE WHAT YOUR TRYING TO SAY. YOU WANT A DIVORCE BUT YOU DON'T WANT A DIVORCE. TRY TALKING TO HIM ABOUT WHY HE'S SO ANGRY ALL THE TIME AND WHY YOU GUYS CAN'T GO BACK TO HOW IT WAS WHEN YOU FIRST MET. DO THE SAME THING YOU USE TO DO WHEN YOU WERE FIRST DATING.

Refuse to show that you're "intimidated".
Imagine that the person simply is not there.
