A molecular substance is one that exist in discrete molecules which are usually held together by covalent bonding.

Hydrogen, Nitrogen and Oxygen gases, sucrose (table sugar), ethanol (alcohol) and acetone (finger nail polish remover) are all molecular substances.

Those things which are Not molecular include metals (which have metallic bonding) and things with ionic bonding, for example: table salt (Sodium chloride), household ammonia (Ammonium hydroxide) and quartz (Silicon dioxide). These things do not have discrete molecules.
