Ugh!

Why not white projects instead, such as housing the homeless, educating the world's poor, and training the young in our cities in human values and to be good cricketers or baseball players?

This is an inspired idea. It brings me to mind of one I had some years ago. Instead of having community fundraising to buy useless minibuses and school equipment we could raise funds for our own superweapons. Different groups could compete for who was the most heavily armed. I would personally organise a whip-round to buy a community nuclear missile. Then woe betide anyone who even hinted at attacking us. Imagine about 20 million competely unco-ordinated attacks as every household launched its own defence. Beautiful.
