Take note that there are just 29 cities (and Washington D.C.) listed, and there are 50 states. Which means that you are not the only state/city not specifically represented. Obviously, Yahoo grouped together geographic areas, and just represented the most prominent cities those geographic areas. Many states have no specific representation there. So you are not alone.

I would love to know how Yahoo chose the cities they did, and more, why they left out the ones they did!

Because New Jersey is a whole state, and Yahoo did not feel it necessary to put a seperate category for any of your cities. People lump New Jersey with NYC because itis so close, like they lump Tampa with Orlando, Mississippi with New Orleans, etc.
