First, DirecTV renews its exclusive agreement with the NFL Sunday Ticket so nobody that has Dish Network or cable can ever watch their out of market team's games. Now, they just acquired exclusive rights to televise the MLB Extra Innings package. I predict that within the next 10 years, ALL NFL games will be available ONLY via pay-per-view. And if that is successful, (and of course it will be because we cannot go without our football), baseball is sure to follow. I guess the term "monopoly" means nothing to our lawmakers anymore.

DirecTV does have a handle on exclusive sports. Many sports buffs get Direct just because of their sports package. So if they dropped NFL Sunday Ticket, they would be at a great loss. It's their competitive advantage over Dish...and even cable.

About the previous cable comment, I still think that satellite TV has more bang for the buck compared to cable. They have HD too, so the quality can be excellent (if you really want it to be).

NFL will never go to a strictly pay per view basis. They would lose huge markets and they know it. Had DirecTV, dropped it, the newer cable packages are so much better in quality and channels.
