nope....coz basically, PS3 is a game console with a blue ray used for hd tvs to watch movies too in more clear picture...if you buy the hd player alone with blue ray, it will cost you thousands of dollars...compare to PS3...

No, the PS3 isn't overpriced. For 600 bucks (US Dollars), you get a lot, including a Blu-ray player, Wi-Fi capabilities, wireless Sixaxis controller, various memory card slots, and a 60 gb hard drive. All in all, the PS3 is a lot cheaper than the 360. The only reason people say that the PS3 is so expensive is because of the 600 price tag, but if you include everything that the PS3 has onto the 360, the 360 ends up being a lot more expensive.
It's the price you pay when you want to play with the latest technology. Technology isn't cheap.

The PS3 isnt over priced for what you get "out of the box" but it is expensive.
Just like a Ferrari isnt over priced but is expensive.
But when you buy a Ferrari, you know that is not gonna drop heavily in price after a year or so like the PS3 is.
I have to admit, i paid £250.00 for a DVD player all those years back but DVD's were always going to be the next media device.
Either HD-DVD or Blue-Ray is going to fail.... thats a guarantee and i am not going to take a risk on spending alot of money on something that has a 50/50 chance of success.

As Tuatara stated, the Blu-Ray is just some crappy piece of equipment that will die soon.
The PS3 is NOT worth the 600$. Blu-Ray will die and quite a lot of game makers are leaving Sony and going to the Wii or the 360 because making games for the PS3 is too expensive, and since Sony has like...1/14th of the market share game developers KNOW that they'll make more money off other consoles.
Sony made a big mistake. And it WILL cost them.

They price it so expensive because they know geeks will pay anything for the new playstation so they might as well make a profit from them .It is so expensive beacuse it uses a new type of disk called blue ray also it has a inbuilt bluetooth device suggesting you can send pics and music from your phone to youre console(i heard it of a mate) which sounds cool, and not to mention all the games are in hd .however i still wouldnt buy one as the Accessories and softwere will be pricey.youre better of buying a xbox 360 for only £280 ,or if youre really want one try on ebay youll probably get a cheaper one than £400.

Do I think the PS3 is overpriced? As a game console ABSOLUTELY. $600 dollars is outrageous. But, being Sony, they have (once again) tried to force a new media format onto the world. (See also: UMDs, MiniDiscs, and Betamax cassettes.) The entire concept of Blu-Ray discs is ridiculous. DVDs are not only much much cheaper, but they get the job done fine. No sensible person should be that obsessed with "HD." It's really not that impressive. I've lost a lot of respect for Sony over the years. Anyways, lemme get back on topic, the PS3 is super expensive, but in reality Sony is losing a good deal of money in the manufacturing process. Don't consider them stupid for that however, that's actually the typical trend with gaming consoles. You lose money on the console, but make it all back (and then comes profit) with the games, accessories, and player's guides. Not to mention they get super hot, catch fire, and then don't get replaced by Sony, forcing people to buy another one and all the games!. ;P But that's (supposed) to be rare, and kept secret. So shh...you didn't hear it from me. ; )

The PS3 has a huge amount of cutting edge technology build in to it, including the new Blue Ray DVD system. As a result it is very expensive, interestingly Sony have let it slip that even at the current price they are losing money on each and every PS3 sold. The big picture is that they are trying to establish blue ray as the new DVD format and as such they are prepared to loss money.

Yep, very overpriced, I'm goign to wait at least a year for the prices to come down. When the xbox, ps2 and gamecube came out there were all expensive then about 12 to 18months later the price fell dramatically. I still have a standard xbox and will wait for the 360's to come down in price, round about 9 months after halo 3 has launched, then I'll get one.

No, as a games machine and a complete home entertainment system with blu ray its a bargain. Ask any geek or nerd about the cell processor and see them salivate like a dog wating for a bone.
As just a games machine yes its overpriced.
But Sony reckon it'll last 10 years before the PS4 is launched - the longest planned shelf life of a console

it can't cost less. it costs like $800 to make one!
sony loses $200 each time they sell one!
sorry i don't know the uk prices.
and besides, after you've bought the HD TV and the surround sound system (you're just not getting what you can without that), then $200 isn't really that much.
also, if you by the xbox you have to pay for online, so the consoles are the same price after about 4 years, and you're sure to play them longer than that.
