They were actually two separate colonies. Here is some info on the lost colony at Roanoke - http://www.nps.gov/archive/fora/search.htm.

For an excellent account of Jamestown & the later settlement at Plymouth, I recommend "The Light and the Glory" by Peter Marshall and David Manuel - http://www.amazon.com/Light-Glory-Peter-Marshall/dp/0800750543

Only know a little. Jamestown is the first successful British Colony in America. Roanoke is an early colony where the crops were failing and, one day, every just left. There is now sign of violence, from natives, or cannibalism but it is possible. They just left. It is unknown why or what really happened.

it was roanoke, ane english ship dropped off a small contingent of settlers in 1585 and returend two years later and no one was found, they di find some remains and there were rumors of local indians having blue eyes, which would indicate that the indians took prisoners and assimilated them into thier tribes, as indians did not have blue eyes. jamestown was a permanent settlement in virginia in 1607
