My pet dog was hit by a car today. It was a hit and run. I believe that the car lives down my street. Is there any legal issues that I can take about this?

Chances are there is nothing the law will do for you, unless the driver deliberately came up in your yard to hit your dog. In most places, it's the owner's responsibility to keep control of their pets. Not that that will prevent accidents: There are a couple of dogs I know that will run if they should once get loose.

That won't make the loss of your dog hurt less, I know.

Plain and simple, YOU are responsible for the whereabouts of your dog, and what the animal does on leash and off.

Sorry, for your loss, but....
