say on a downhill situation, meaning that the car will be left to slide maybe for several miles, does that harm the transmission system in any way?
also is it harmfull to change from L to S to D and vise versa while driving at speed? assuming the motor speed(RPM) is ok with that, i'm just asking what will happen to transmission will it suffer in any way?

Yes. It tends to harm the transmission when you go off the cliff because you burned the brakes up going down the hill in neutral.

As long as the engine is running, no, it shouldn't hurt the transmission.
Manually shifting your transmission shouldn't hurt your transmission, I wouldn't think. Racers have been doing it for decades. Some transmissions are set up to be driven that way if the driver chooses not to just stick it in drive and herd it down the road.

Your transmission will not suffer any harmfull effects by shifting into neutral,,or from drive to low etc,,,just dont try downshifting if your going realy fast unless its an emergency.

Shifting trans wont hurt it. Putting it in neutral while going downhill could possible create a safety issue. In the event of an emergency you may need to accelerate to avoid a problem. Keep your trans in gear.

ARGH!!!!!
No it's not ok to put the transx in Neutral while in forward momentum ... this can result in unnessecary wear and tear on the auto-clutch and can result in u neding a full tranx kit replacement.

It is fine to put your car in neutral while driving. You can go anywhere on the tranny as long as it's not park.

of course not, in my mind i would believe that it would help your transmission in many ways, gas and transmission wear being one of the many good things to save.

I would say it's okay, so long as you don't quickly shift from D to R or vice-versa.
