wouldn't it be wonderful if we had the true kind of freedom that applauded individual pride and accomplishment. You sound like a whole and healthy person. Keep on growin' and livin' in health and wholeness!

I understand how you feel and no you dont seem to have self hatred issues as someone had stated above. Theres nothing wrong with being genuine- you're doing what you're supposed to be doing...being yourself. Its media's portrayal that says that we are loud and obnoxious and all big bootied when there are many who arent. I know its hard when people tell you things like that and it gets annoying but just ignore them because they're just looking to recruit people into being just like them. There's nothing wrong with "acting" a certain way because for some people its just who they are. It becomes a problem when people start to become narrow minded and put down other people for it. Keep being proud of who you are- black and female, and continue to be open minded- the more you expose yourself to, the more you know.

Oh, Sweetheart!,
Imagine a blender. Little by little the darker things blend with the paler things. But? It takes time.
The blame for racism was, in the past, placed on the majority Euro sorts. (and rightly so, at least for many of them...remember that 868,000 white-breads died to end our servitude, established long before the constitution - we, as Americans, inherited it, we did not invent nor institutionalize it).
The best you and I and all those we know, can do is to keep a clear head and oppose gently. Our devotion to what we know is right will (read: WILL) eventually be heard. Even the most ardent 'hater' will feel his/her heart melt in the presence of decency.
Keep up the determination, girl!
Keep up the love.

The key word here is "Act".
Why must anyone act a certain way?. Most people don't realize, that our personalities are ours, and there is no acting involved. Because we were not all born the same (and thank God for that!), each individual has his own distinct personality. If someone tells you, that you should stop acting "White",and you should get some "Booty implants", then ask them if they can tell you what is the number one thing, that makes you different from them?. If they can't answer, then you tell them it's your personality.

You are keeping it real and looking out for yourself, get good grades and "act white" all you want, speak properly and you will go a lot farther in life. Have you noticed that the same ones that act ghetto are the same ones to say they are being held down? When in fact they are doing it to themselves.

I totally understand. I hate being told that I think I'm better than other black people because I want to pursue my education and have career. And yes, its even worst for our "people". I'm proud of being black, but I want to be proud of raising my daughter, having a successful career, and being financially stable without government assistance. Keep being who you are, some people are like crabs in a bucket, always trying to pull down the crab that makes it to the top.

Well, I guess you just have to be yourself and stop worrying about it.
If someone says your acting white, tell them to piss off. You are who you are and to grow up.
The idea of the Uncle Tom is often used to keep blacks down below the poverty line. If I were a member of the KKK, I'd go calling every successful black an uncle Tom.

I totally agree with you. Just because I don't do the stereotypical black stuff, they give me crap about It. I've been talked about by other black people who say that I'm not black. It's seems like they want me to act like that.
Just be your own person and eventually people will realize that we are all individuals.

See you have some self hatred issues going on, darling. Its evident in your question. You are reinforcing stereo types yourself by implying that being black means speaking improper english. Just the fact that you call yourself African-American leads me to believe you've been hanging around white people too much. You're black, love.
