This tends to occur mostly in questions in which one side takes a position very controversial to the other side. It is also aggravated when insults or name calling is involved. Those who agree with the questioner's view point all tend to give it a 'thumbs up' and those who are insulted and take the opposite view feel obligated to respond in a negative manner and give it a 'thumbs down'. I used to do this, but have now elected to ignore such offensive rants and challenges and look for questions which at least show me that the asker is seeking to communicate rather than pontificate to and insult the people on this website who may have a different view of things.

I haven't really noticed any thumb wars. I guess I don't pay that much attention to it. I get some thumbs up, and some thumbs down, and I just figure that the thumbs down are from people who disagree with me, and it really doesn't bother me.!!!

I think you mean that one answerer will give thumbs down to all other answerers. I suppose it's an effort to get 10 points. Of course, that's kind of silly. Getting to level 7 and gaining the most points doesn't pay the mortgage. I mean, the questions can be fun, but there's no fin'l benefit, so I don't get it.

Depends on the question. If it's a real stumper for one party, they tend to thumbs down the affirmations, but it also depends on the temperature of the board at the moment.

Lack of understanding and possibly lack of a real good sense of self worth. Probably are not capable of understanding others are free to have their own opinions. PLUS - some questions, as you may have seen, are really a few bricks short of a load or another words STUPID. You present a good question from your observations. People are allowed to have their own opinions and should express them in an intelligent and respectful way.

Because sometimes people are real petty. You can give a very intelligent and thought out answer and still get a thumbs down because they didn't like what you said. They can get over themselves if you ask me.
