our mind is like honeycomb and the thoughts are like bees constantly murmuring so to be able to not think is impossible. We can though monitor our thought process like slowing down a bit at will. Too much thinking means we are thinking on the same subject for a long time and that may be very dangerous for our mental well being. Some yoga teachers say that by learning the proper breathing technique one can gain control on his own thing. Hope this helps.

Yes! The purest state of mind where one can find the deepest connection to oneself within the universe, is that which exists beyond dialogue. The point at which all thought is superceded by supreme silence. A state that can be entered into at will, with practice. A stunning guidebook as to how to go about doing this, is called, "Heaven On Earth" by Stephen D'Amico, available at www.ameekpress.com! The author gives an honest report of an almost supernatural experience he had that transformed his mind forever, for the better, of course. He outlines how others can also enter this state and so achieve greater inner peace and direction in life. This experience gave him the answer as to why we are all here, and that answer lies beyond all words and all thought. Someone gave it to me as a gift, and it was like wow! That's what it's all about! And the author is living proof! It's truly amazing!

Yes, it is possible to think about a subject or matter too much. In the philosophy trade, this is given the sophisticated label of "chasing one's tail" or tying oneself in knots that are incapable of being severed. Of course, most people do not have the problem of thinking too much. In the lingo of Martin Heidegger, the collective Das man does not think enough. One wonders whether some people think at all.

There's this story about a dog that is an equal distence from tow bowls of food and both bowls have the same amount of the same kind of food. Because no bowl of food is better or greater than the other the dog will be unable to decide between them and just sit there and starve to death. This is an example of thinking too much. I tried this with my dog once. She went for one bowl of food, then the other, then got sick from eating so much. that would be an example of thinking too little.

Yes, it is unless you know where/when you should stop thinking on that matter. Then, it's wiser to do something for relaxation like reading light stories, watching TV programs, doing some favorite physical exercises, etc. since our mental potential needs relaxing once in a while, again, like driving a car after, say, one hour or two, you should stop driving, have a break and drive again. You're close to any accident/danger if you keep driving for hours with no brake. In brief, everything has its limit.

Yes it is. I was raised to learn to "think for yourself", using the words of my dear old dad that he taught me with throughout my life, and I'm glad I did that, BUT, I have come to believe over my 50+ years of living that sometimes it's time to stop thinking and DO SOMETHING, or, stop thinking and GIVE IT A REST. I'm proud of my college degrees, and my ability to engage in a "headsy" discussion as one of my dear friends says about me, but sometimes I wish I didn't think so much. It's a lot of fun when I don't, and either relax or do something. And, sometimes thinking gets in the way of believing and trusting, and I have lost A LOT because I was unable to stop thinking about someone or some thing, and just trust and believe. This is not to say that I'm against thinking since I'm literally horrified at how little of that seems to be done throughout our society, but it is to say that, sometimes, "enough is enough", to borrow another well used phrase by my dear ol' dad, and just enjoy life. God Bless you.

absolutely. You can over think things.

I have a brother-in-law who does exactly that. He thinks it to death.
as a result, anything he does take three weeks to do instead of the
3 hours it would take someone else. And in the end, it isn't any
better then if he had just done it in the first place.

My girlfriend tells me all the time "You think too much" whenever I make a big deal out of something that is apparently really small. So yeah, I think so.

Yes, sometimes you can over-think and sometimes you need to stop thinking so much and just act on it. I've seen people think something to death for years, like whether to move or not. I'm like, just shut up & move already!! :) So, yes you can think too much. Don't do that, it's annoying. :)
