Has anyone successfully received funds from their bank by just asking them to refund all bank charges over the last 6 years (as highlighted on radio and in the newspapers) without any comeback? Apparently you can take your bank to the small claims court over this and receive thousands of pounds back for every time the bank has charged you for going over your overdraft limit, sent you a letter informing you you are out of funds etc. These letters are standard ones that cost about 10p to run off, the cost of a first class stamp to send and yet we are charged anything from £20 - £35. I would be really interested to know if anyone has done this, won, and not had their bank account closed or had the wrath of the bank drop on their head.!

The process is so easy, and made even easier by the wonderful knowledgable people on www.penaltycharges.co.uk website. Founded by Stephen Hone the first guy in the nation to realise that bank charges were unlawful and who won, spectacularly against Abbey. Go get them, you will win. It's a certainty. Have a look at the website to see more than a million pounds won back with the help of Penalty Charges forums.

As an employee of an un-named bank i would like to say that we are happy to refund customers charges should they occur due to a bank error. If this is due to the customer going overdrawn (using funds which aren't theres) then they deserve to incur a charge. Maybe the charges are excessive but they are explained to the customer in the terms and conditions when they open their account. people should just keep a better track of their account, its not that difficult
