It is a war against all nations. American ships have been sunk, American lives taken, in ways which it has stirred us very deeply to learn of, but the ships and people of other neutral and friendly nations have been sunk and overwhelmed in the waters in the same way. There has been no discrimination. The challenge is to all mankind. Each nation must decide for itself how it will meet it. The choice we make for ourselves must be made with a moderation of counsel and a temperateness of judgment befitting our character and our motives as a nation. We must put excited feeling away. Our motive will not be revenge or the victorious assertion of the physical might of the nation, but only the vindication of right, of human right, of which we are only a single champion.

yeah, its worse. Fanatics for a cause blowing themselves up worldwide, killing innocents, while the spineless just want to appease and give them a hug and feel if we just mind our own business, they'll go away. Same thing happened in the 30's and same thing is happening today. No they are not sinking ships (yet) but the risk is worse. Nuclear. Only takes one of those. People used the same arguments about Hitler as people are making today about Al Queda, Islamo Facists, etc..They let him roll over europe because nobody wanted another WW1. Just appease. Well that didn't work then and its not going to work today. People who are fanatics don't go away. They don't stop until they rule everything and then like Germany, self implode, but not before costing hundreds of millions of lives.
Some people really need to pick up a actual history book sometime.

It is not history repeating. There are no submarines in wolf packs attacking hundreds of merchant marine ships and naval vessels.
