A windscreen wiper motor is the normal name for this. Best thing to do if you need a cheap replacement is to go to a motor breakers where you will be able to pick one up for about £10.00
Before you get one check the fuses as normally the fuse will blow before the motor burns out.
I have had experience in the past of water getting into the motor causing rust to form resulting in the motor jamming.
You can check this by stripping the motor apart and if you find rust use some sand paper to clean it out.

You must be from the U.K. I do not know what is called there, but here in the U.S., I know it called a wiper transmission; the wiper motor also attaches to it.

you did answer you own question, though,just go to your local salvage yard (scrapyard ) and get one from there if that is the fault and not the fuses as they very rarely go wrong i have had it happen to me in a old beetle vw piece of string came in handy and a passenger lol ( faulty fuse) alot of cars (models)use same motors and if scrapyard is any good they can tell you which car you could get a replacment , even if not from the same car(model)
