Actually, it becomes NORTH Michigan at Madison, since that is the dividing line between north and south in the Loop.
Michigan is approximately four to six blocks east of Lake Michigan and runs north until it becomes Lake Shore Drive north of Oak Street (near the Drake Hotel).
