No, limewire doesn't cause any spyware or viruses. There are other peer to peer softwares like Kazaa which are full of viruses and spywares.
I am a computer professional, and I have been using limewire since long to dowload movies, and songs and I did not came across any virus problems.
But you have to be aware on something. If you download application files (generally executable exe files), these applications themselves may be viruses. So, either do not download these unknown applications, or if you really do, scan them with updated antiviruses.
If you are simply downloading songs and movies, you can, without any fear of viruses, use Limewire.

It is true limewire can give you a virus. just be careful on what you download. Don't download any zip files or any folders. that's how i got a virus on my new computer. stick with music that is over 1,000 KB. those are usually the actual songs and not viruses. After you download the song, i advise you to listen to it and then if you are satisfied with it, put it in another folder and delete it from the shared folder limewire comes with. good luck

So do away with it and save your self some soreness. yet another subject: Piracy is undesirable MMMMkay! discover yet otherwise to get your track legally, its no longer puzzling.

if you're just using limewire for music you'll be fine. anything else you download (games, programs, etc.) can and usually contain viruses. all the music on limewire is in mp3 format. too small to carry viruses. always make sure you close your connection before closing limewire. just go to file then disconnect. used properly, limewire isn't so bad. keep your virus software updated.

No. However, applications that you download from LimeWire can be infected. I suggest never downloading a program or any compressed folder/file from LimeWire. Stick to audio, photo and video downloads and you'll be alright.

No, limewire itself does not cause viruses. You do, however, need to be carefull what you download on limewire because the files can have viruses attatched to them.

Limewire, the program, can't. But downloading Programs or games very likely could. I suggest using torrents for your LEGAL downloads.

it can...stay away from files that don't match your search...stay away from mp3s with .exe on the end...stay away from files that pop up to quickly in the search.
anyway limewire isn't the greatest protocol out there....dc++ is a much better solution
several years running and no virus trouble yet

hell ****** yess! i went through FOUR FREAKING hard drives because of lime wire, and TWO laptops..... seriously.....
even some of the websites where you BUY the program, your computer still gets virused out, you need to do some research to find a reliable site. trust me, it is better to pay 20 bucks a year for unlimited music than to pay 1000 dollares for a new laptop, 0-300 dollares for a new hard drive, or if you get caught, pay a fine for illegal downloading....
