My vaio vgn ar190g was stolen just before christmas. I bought it thru a friend who goes to eletronic trade shows and he bought it in April 06. My insurance company won't replace it because they say it wasn't released, therefore, not available until July 2006. Any explanations to how it was purchased before it was released? (I even had photos of me with it but insurance still says impossible).

I GUESS I'LL BE MORE SPECIFIC: ARE THERE ANY TRADE SHOW GEEKS WHO KNOW HOW PC'S ARE SOLD PRIOR TO PUBLIC RELEASE DATES? (IT WAS ONLY4 MOS EARLIER) iT WAS A TRADE SHOW FOR DEALERS I GUESS. I'M ALSO GOING TO ADD SOMEMORE INFO FOR THOSE WHO WONDERED. IT WAS BOUGHT FOR ME AS A GIFT BY AN EX BUT I PUT IN SOME ON IT... HE NO LONGER HAS RECEIPT... BUT HE DID WRITE A LETTER FOR ME EXPLAINING IT ALL. HARD LESSON LEARNED BUT I KEPT ALL THE MANUALS IN THE PC CASE WITH IT. MY INSURANCE COMPANY IS (FOR THOSE INTERESTED) STATE FARM AND THIS WAS MY 1ST CLAIM. MY EST. (THEIR #'S) LOSS WAS JUST OVER 15K AND I GOT A CHECK FOR $7350.00 MY CLAIM IS STILL OPEN AND IF I CAN EXPLAIN TO THEM HOW I GOT THE PC B4 ITS RELEASE DATE THEY'LL PAY OUT. (SO THEY SAY)

That shouldn't matter. That sounds like a bunch of BALONEY to me! Look insurance=scam artists okay? I would keep pouncing on them as much as you can and even go to an attorney if necessary on this one. The insurance companies will come up with just about ANYTHING so as not to have to pay for a loss when it comes time. Curious as to what Insurance you are going through.

I suppose you don't have a receipt for it? If you have the receipt and a picture of it, plus a written statement from your friend, they really have no leg to stand on. A written letter to them and you rinsurance commishioner (if you have one) will go a long way. If not, you may have to go to court.

If you don't have a receipt, they've got a point; how can you have something that shouldn't have been available. You picture may look like it, but there's no document that says it is what you way it is.

they wont cover something that wasnt purchased legally from a reputable business. if you got it from a friend thats not a legitimate purchase so they will not verify it. the same reason i cant call my insurance company and say my 2009 bmw just got stolen.
