Spotting more than just a little can be a sign, although some women have spotting in the first trimester and it's completely normal. Other signs could be moderate to severe cramping. Good luck honey, I sure hope you're not having one.

I've had three miscarriages, two went unnoticed as really heavy periods. The other one started as a bad pain in my lower back and abdomen in the afternoon and later that evening I woke up cramping and lying in a pool of blood.

To be sure, if you unexpectedly start bleeding during pregnancy, immediately go to a hospital - even if it's nothing (regular spotting sometimes occur and is normal), it's better to be safe than sorry. You don't say how far along you are, but the further you are in your pregnancy the more can be done to stop a miscarriage, so I will urge you again to seek medical attention right away.

How early on are you? I had just gone 5 weeks when I woke up and noticed that my pregnancy boobs were feeling normal again. I went to the loo and noticed I was bleeding, no cramps, no temperature - nothing. {Usually when I get my AF i am physically sick with the pain on the first day so this was strange.} It took 5 days for it to end and it was slightly heavier than a normal period. However all women are different - a friend of mine was bleeding every month right up until she was 4 months pregnant and it then came as a bit of a shock for her!! If you have bright red bleeding or passing clots I suggest you attend the emergency department of your local hospital. However try not to worry to much all women are different and if you are bleeding it might just be normal for you. I know how worried you must be as my miscarriage only happened 1 month ago and when the bleeding started I was so scared but what is meant to be is meant to be and if you get yourself worked up in to a state it wont help your pregnancy.

I hope everything will be ok for you. Take care

Everyone is different and go through different symptoms. If your concern, call your doctor or go to ER. A miscarriage can not be prevented! Bleeding is a common sign but it could be mislead as implantation bleeding or maybe placenta previa or maybe a loss of a multiple. Cramping is another symptom but is one to be more concern about. One will not know forsure unless you have a blood test or an ultrasound. I hope everything goes okay for you!

I don't want to alarm you but the 'you'll know' comment wasn't correct for me. I was feeling fine. No cramping. All I had was some very scant brownish discharge that my doc said was normal. After a week of the discharge I had a bad feeling that something just wasn't right, although it wasn't a physically bad feeling, it was just a gut instinct. I went to the ER, it was a Sunday. They gave me a blood test and said my hcg level was going down. A day later I had a "period".

You may be just fine, but in order to put your mind at rest the best thing to do is go see a doctor. Until then you may just drive yourself crazy wondering.

My Dr. told me I was having a miscarriage. I didn't start the actual bleeding for a week. It was evident in my rapidly falling hormone levels.
If you think you are, you need to see a Dr. for your own health. If you are definitely pregnant, depending on the cause and timing, it can be stopped (with progesterone). Only a doctor can decide if it's possible to try.

I have known of some women not knowing especially if it is early in pregnancy. One girl in particular didn't realise until she had a period followiong the miscarriage. If your unsurre you need to take a pregnacy test ofr see a doctor. For some it is obvious they have miscarried becuase of the large discharge but does not always hapen... Also i have heard of some having a period like session and still be pregnant. so see a doctor if in doubt. phone a clinic to see how long you need to wait if at all to test...Lets

The blood will be bright red..More than spotting. They say you know when you have soaked through a pad that you are having problems. You need to see a doctor right away.
