Some people can and some people do. Marriage is a wonderful institution. The problem is that a lot of people make the wrong choice in who to marry. It's always easier to blame someone or something other than yourself for your own problems. If you are feeling cynical one day to can say that love is temporary insanity cured by marriage or that marriage is domestic incarceration.

Some people though are perfect--they want the commitment, the devotion, the innate holiness of being bonded the way they are. I respect and I admire them and thoroughly enjoy the reception.

I've been there, done that and know how you feel. As a hopeless romantic, I wonder to myself and wonder, and wonder and wonder...

Because BF/GF relationships end do to selfishness and lack of serious commitment. Other reasons: Married people get more tax breaks, the wife is elgible for 1/2 the amount that the husband makes through social security at retirement, children need to know that they have a mom AND a dad that are going to stick around and not destroy their whole world any minute, sex just gets better and better, and because marriage is about giving, not taking.

Marriage is not overrated for those who commit to each other. People who want nothing more than a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship lack committment to the relationship and should not be married.

I view marriage as the ultimate show of love to my wife, because I was willing to make that commitment to spend the rest of my life with her as her husband. Besides, I feel if your thinking of it as far as sex is concerned. Sex was created by God to be between a husband and wife inside the bonds of marriage.

God created marriage. And that's another reason why I think marriage is NOT over rated.
The problem I see is people rush into marriage and don't take it seriously and when problems arise, they run away instead of facing them head on.

Its called evolving. You can't be bf and gf forever. You have responsibilities when you have children and if you aren't married I can see you thinking you can just cut and run. Before God and your friends and family, you make a pledge to love and honor(no other honies) and support each other in good and bad times. You don't have to do that if she's your gf. You could just say you got bored or tired or she got fat. That's why.

If you can't commit, then don't get married. Marriage shows that you are committed to the person. If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.
