Cambelt could have snapped (no power + likely to have wrecked engine). Could be a few things.

If the car is an automatic transmission the most common reason for it not moving is the oil level in the gear box. If you open the bonnet look for a dip stick normally near the back of the engine compartment. Pull it out and check the oil level. If low fill up with automatic transmission fluid. Be very care full not to over fill it.
If its and manual transmission it may be that the clutch has failed. Check to see if the gear stick goes into gear with any difficulty. Unfortunately if it is the clutch it will be a garage job.
Did you notice that there was any problems with the gears before the current problem?

if it isnt all the silly things like it isnt running , handbrake on etc
if its an auto box check the fluid level
in most automatics when you check the level you have to have engine running whith car in drive WITH HANDBRAKE ON , and what ever you do dont lean over the front of car check the level of fluid from the side if poss or get somebody to sit in car with foot on the brake there will be a min and a max if low top up with recomended oil ask in auto store some cars use different grades of auto box oil allthough i think there only 2or 3 types
if car is a manual there could be a number of things wrong and suggest getting a mechanic to look at it ,perhaps a mobile mechanic that will come to your house to look at car as you are unable to move car to garage i guess unless you fancy towing it

Loing at ur answers the only sensible answer apart from linkage was fluid and answered by a female. How often do u check ur transmission fluid? no fluid no drive, no fluid could mean damaged gearbox, CHECK THE GEARBOX OIL.
It could be linkage probs, does the gear select lever feel loose or weird?

Hello,
(ANS) It could be that the cars onboard computerised engine management system has developed a serious fault. If it has one of the symptoms might be that the car would be undrivable.
**You would have to take the car to a main dealer with computerised diagnostics. To pin point the problem.

I had that happen once, it turned out that I was low on transmission fluid. Look under your car and see if you can find any leaks--transmission fluid is reddish.
I had to have a whole bunch of gaskets replaced because they were leaking. Before that I kept a bottle of transmission fluid in my van.

You need either a new transmission or you need to put some fuel in your car.
