A great song that I know of to sing is "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd.
Now don't get afraid of the male singer, it can be sung very well by a girl as I saw last night. At a concert a 16/17 year old girl got on stage in front of over 200 people and sang the song really well. The lyrics can be shifted for your own use and you can get kind of creative with the song and how high, steady or flat you sing or hold the notes for.

Well... a lot depends on what kind of and how good a singer you are. but if you're a good singer, listen to the early CDs of Rickie Lee Jones and pick any a song you like.
Her first album err cd was called Rickie Lee Jones. The other one I think you should listen to is called Pirates.
