Save your eggshells, rinse them out and crush them up. Slugs do not like to crawl through the finely crushed eggshells and that will help to repel them. Yes, you can also use table salt--but, table salt will kill your grass and what ever plant life that you pour it on.
There are also commercial products available, but they can be dangerous to pets. If that is not a problem, visit your local home improvement center. You can locate it in the seasonal pest control aisles.
Also, I forgot, another nonchemical repellant is to save your coffee grounds. They do not like those either.
Further, if you want to attract them to one area, set out a pie tin full of beer. The slugs are attracted to it and when they crawl into it, it kills/dissolves them.

hi! the first thing you must remember, slugs lay their eggs in the early winter, so putting slug bait out before then is really important. Doing that will kill any egg producing slugs. If you are too late in doing that, just make sure you keep the area that you are concerned with cleaned up. Rake everything up like leaves, branches, dead flowers whatever. If you have any damp wood piles or anything else that a slug would love to live in...either get rid of it or move it where it will stay dry. Slugs won't live in a dry environment. If its damp and messy, you're gonna have slugs! Another thing to remember: even if say, a wood pile looks like it's quite far away, slugs travel great distances to get to their food like your sprouting flowers and veggies.
You might also consider getting a couple of female mallard ducks...they love slugs! Good luck. lh

We've used lids filled with beer and then sunk to ground level near the plant. Does seem to kill the slugs but have to keep filling up the lids each evening. Our cat used to drink the beer. I suspect other critters do too. :)
Never tied this but looks like wood ash gets rid of slugs. That would be cheaper than beer.

Go to Lowes, or Home Depot & ask someone who works there. They are usually more knowledgable than someone at Wal* Mart, etc.
