I highly doubt this would free up much room. Files used for email should not take up much space at all. Rick click your main hard drive (probably C:) and check how much room is left. If you have more than 1 or 2 GBs left, you are fine on hard drive space. As for increasing speed, adding more ROM can be very helpful. Having at least 512 mb ROM is crucial. You can check this by going to Start -> Control Panel -> Systemshould see the RAM near the bottom.

Seek out a friend or classmate who is PC savvy and have them tweak your OS, it will gain some speed, by freeing up RAM and reducing the load on the CPU. This is done by turning off services that are not being used or not critical to everyday operation.

If you add RAM that will help by allowing you to run applications without having to retrieve data from the hard drive. If you are really low on RAM the system will use part of the hard drive as "memory" which also slows down the system.

The greatest speed improvement is of course upgrading your CPU/motherboard to the latest dual core/64 bit CPUs.

On the extreme end you could overclock your existing CPU, but you compromise the reliability of the system and worse case you fry the CPU. The faster they go, the hotter they get.

Only RAM is 'memory'. Disc space is called storage. Windows uses some storage as 'virtual' memory if its RAM is overtaxed by the programs you run. That really slows things down, as disc storage access is measured in multi milli seconds (8 to 15), whereas RAM is accesses in sub micro seconds (1/2 to 1/8th) and thus is 10 to 30,000 times as fast.
More RAM will keep that from happening as often and speeds up everything.
