In Montgomery, Alabama, Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on the bus to a white person, a requirement in the rules for passengers on the bus line. Blacks were to stand and give up their seat to a White person. She was arrested, and Martin Luther King went to Montgomery to initiate and organize the Montgomery Bus Strike which lasted over a year and was so successful that the bus line had to change its policies. So began the Civil Rights movement with a legitimate leader, am leader who gave his people AND who showed them they had political and economic clout. Rosa began it all.
