BAGHDAD, Iraq - Iraq's prime minister said Saturday he will reshuffle his Cabinet within two weeks and pursue criminal charges against political figures linked to extremists as a sign of his government's resolve to restore stability during the U.S.-led security crackdown in Baghdad.
Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki also told The Associated Press during an interview at his Green Zone office that Iraq will work hard to ensure the success of a regional security conference.
The conference in Baghdad, tentatively set for next weekend, is expected to bring together all of Iraq's neighbors, including Iran and Syria, as well as the United States and Britain to find ways to ease this country's security.

Interesting.. But also a slap in the face re Syria and Iran. Looks as though Iraq is looking for a coalition NOT inclusive of the United States, that they can solve their own problems WITHOUT the U.S.

The U.S, has expressed disinterest in this conference, but I would suggest that they are instead VERY interested, and they will surely send representatives. As it stands this move was unexpected with respect to an open invitation to Syria and Iran. It appears that these Middle Eastern countries and Persian Iran will exert the belief in power in numbers and sticking together in times of strife, despite conflicting beliefs. It's like here in the U.S. We may not like someone, but if they are from our race or ethnicity, we stick by them.
Here we have Muslims, many factions. But they are not European nor are they from the West. These people are not fools. They see the United States as a threat despite that our soldiers are there. They also know that we have destroyed much of their country. But we have NOT destroyed theitr oil fields. ..
ah....it's called common sense.
Iraq wants the U.S. OUT..... It's as clear as day.
Iraq will use diplomacy in getting the U.S. out.
It will happen.

They have been patient, these people from Mesopotamia, the cradle of civilization. But wars must end...at one time or another. They are smarter than we think. We recall Bush being told that Iraq could bring about its own peace within 6 months without the U.S. Insteat the U.S. sends more troops.
Not a good idea. Iraq, Iran, Syri and soon much of the Middle East....
The U.S. will be going home.

Not a Muslim. Not asking for special treatment either. No one forcing you to answer. Truth hurts doesn't it. (I've seen MUCH longer details, MUCH MUCH longer)

agree...and you do pose a question...What was the point we are there...the answer is oil production stabilization...our government does not care about the deaths of Iraqis and the government in Iraq knows this. We are not their deliverer...we were just an instrument of change...not a sharp surgical instrument, but a club

Interesting statement of your rather distorted political world view, but you miss the point of the paragraph.

Bush's efforts to make the Iraqi Government take responsibility, up to an including the surge in troops, are working.

Now I know that the Dem's won't admit that, rather they will attempt to convince everyone that Bush wants to keep our troops there to maintain the oil fields for Exxon, the contract work for Halliburton, and the security jobs for Black Star.

And I know that the Dem's will try, as they always do, to take credit for any and all positive developments. I can hear Pelosi and Reid now!

It must be wonderful to be a Dem...no responsibilities...you are always right...and you can always have it your way!

Who do you think is allowing the Iraqi Govt to set up the conference & "suggesting" what they should say to the Iranians & Syrians? The US Govt. This diplomatic conference is a why for Bush to use diplomacy NOT guns to try and end the war so that he pull US troops out ASAP without having to admit that he is a diplomatic appeaser. It's actually very clever which is so unlike Bush.

Hmmm. I got tired reading half way through. Not sure what your point is. I do know however that if the US pulls out now a war will follow in the middle east which defies comprehension. It will be unlike any war in the past and will be a living hell affecting the entire world. Stability in the middle east is needed badly. Any country there stable???

It's not surprising that Iraq wants self determination - duh!, and that it would turn to like minded countries for help. Maliki also has to try and calm the kooks like Al Sadr, and if Sadr does have close ties to Iran or Syria then Maliki needs to please them too. It may just be a shell game, or it could be straight up. Only time will tell.

sounds right and reasonable. take the oil and shove it up their arses. by the way, have you considered that the kurds will get a vast majority and they seem kinda friendly toward americans. and gee, down south the brits will dip off a good share of all that with a maze of legal entanglements that will be paid back or there will be firm consequences and nobody down there will do very well.

They will probably form a coalition with Iran and Syria, and then turn on America, as most of our creations do, i.e. Taliban.

I think it would be a good thing if we weren't needed. It's not our job to be the world's policeman.

This post PROVES what a dumbass you are! You were supposed to post a QUESTION and you posted three declarations and put a question mark after them.

Do us all a favor, if you are living in the USA, please go back to your muslim birthland. If you do not live in the USA, please never soil our shores with your islamofacist puke-brained ideas!
