Alright. I have to do a 5 paragraph on the Swastika.
How does this sound so far? All suggestions are apperciated!
The word Swastika comes from the Sanskirt word meaning "to be." This symbol represented positive things such as sun, power, strengh, and 3,000 years ago, even good luck. The Swastika also was used as decoration for postcards, coins, and buildings. Coins found that date to 1,000 BCE show that the Swastika was a commonly used symbol. Many different cultures used the Swastika, and almost every culture had a different name for it. It wasn't until 1920 that the Swastika was a sign of hate, death, and violence.
In 1920 Adolf Hitler thought that the Nazi Party needed it's own new flag. Hitler chose the Swastika as the new flag because he wanted something that people we're already familiar with. Soon, the meaning of the Swastika changed from behing positive to being all about violence, death, and hate.
