80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

As humans we think of ourselves as the end of the line in evolution. As such we feel that our lives as individuals must have some greater meaning. When we consider that we as a species comprise a given percentage of the biomass based on our consumption as top predator this is an easy trap to fall into. The true meaning of life should be considered from the perspective of the biomass itself. We as humans have been around as a numerical percentage of the biomass for a relatively short span of time. Especially considering the length of time the biomass itself has been present on this planet as a "consistent mass". We are nothing more then an expression of the biomass. Another permutation that it's created in it's own game of survival and expansion. For the question to be relevant it must be asked "What is the desired goal of the biomass"? In this context the answer is simplicity itself. The goal is to expand beyond the confines of the planetary biosphere. To achieve this goal it is necessary to create a permutation capable of designing the next stage of evolutionary consciousness and humans with their mechanical ingenuity seem well equipped to do so. If, in fact, they don't destroy themselves in the process. It's been said that necessity is the mother of invention. The biomass is counting on that. That's why we were created so virulent.

Life is a great "gift". I don't believe we are here just as a mass of blood and bones, a blob to bob around in life with no purpose. First, you must look around and realize what the gifts in your life are. Some are easy, but taken for granted, your senses, your intelligence, your ability to love. There are gifts all around you in nature. Obviously, they were made to give you joy--the colors in a sunset, a flower, or a rainbow. The more you learn about nature, the more you realize it was created diliberately to make lives worthwhile, not just human lives but for all living things.
So first, take check of your gifts in life. Then "Open your gifts, and appreciate them. Thank the One who gave them to you."
Appreciation means taking care of friends and family and the world around you. Preserve and protect the earth for future generations. Each generation should be advancing, moving forward toward the protection of our children and others and protecting their environment.
We are not here for long. Just long enough to make a small difference. Each of us has the capacity to do that.
The meaning of life for me is to appreciate it and enjoy it! Preserve it for future generations.

Life is the reason of our existence...
If anyone wishes to commit suicide, that is to end their lives, then there is no reason for them to continue living...
