I also would like to know what happends when you crack you knuckles, I know its somting like popping your cartalage or somthing like that. Last questions is if it can really cause arthritous, because I am a singer/piano player and I know that would not be good for the piano. Thanks thanks!

It actually DOESN'T cause arthritis. One way to stop is to have a rubber band around your wrist all day andif you catch yourself doing it, snap the rubber band. Otherwise, keep your hands busy.

1st of all cracking your knuckles & if u r female, not very attractive to see nor hear. 2nd they will become larger. 3rd it will cause arthritis, grinding the bones down we call (repetitive wear & tear) 4th how to stop, just stop it's a very bad habit, worse than
biting r nails. Just think seriosly what it's doing to r now & in your
future and if that's not enough, I don't know what is? Got some really good friend's to ask to help u when u start (unconciously) they'll let u know, even family! By the way, that's a nerve disorder
as well.

Hope u r satisfied with answers, if not ask again, happy to help.

Crazking your knuckles doesn't harm you but it can lead to injuries. People over-stretched their ligaments and even dislocated their fingers. If I were you I would find on of those bean balls or stress balls, and when you feel the urge to crack your knuckles squeeze that instead taking the pressure in your fingers away....once you stop the habit for a while like 20 days, you should get used to not doing it.

Its just air moving from one side of the joint in your finger to the other side really fast.

It doesnt cause athritis.

I asked my doctor years ago because I also cruck my knuckles alot. And I play guitar, so if it actually did cause athritis, I'd stop in a heartbeat.

You're popping built-up gas bubbles. Nitrogen, specifically, I believe.

I do it a lot too, and I also play piano. There's no consensus on whether it's good for you or not, but I do know that if I DON'T do it, my hands tend to stiffen up, making it harder to play. I don't know if it's a problem long-term, but short-term it helps my playing, not make it worse.

To stop, just do the motions of cracking them (simply bend your fingers), only soft enough to where they don't crack.
