Someone mentioned the Godlen Compass, which is a GREAT book, and the other two after it are the Subtle Knife, and the Amber Spyglass. I absolutely LOVE these books. Also, The Hobbit is a great book, and not as dry/adult orientated as the Trilogy. Garth Nix is a good Sci Fi writer for young adults (Shade's Children, Abhorsen, amoung others) Jsut browse around and read book backs. Oh! And try the Brian Jacques Redwall books. there are TONS there. The older ones are better: Redwall, Mossflower, The Long Patrol, The Pearls of Lutra, etc. And you odnt have to read them in any order, although chronoligically Mossflower comes first, and is one of my favorites.

The Chronicles of Narnia is a good series, there is series about Merlin you might like, anything by Roald Dahl (Holes, James and the Giant Peach).
Your local library probably has a young adult section to browse. Why not ask the librarian?

I love the Nancy drew series. She solves so many mysteries. She decodes messages and gets out of situation like if a thief gags her or something she could get out of it. It's very interesting. I think you should read. If you like mystery books then you should read this book. By the way it has 56 books.

The Gossip Girl Series and An It Girl Series by Cecily Von Ziegesar are good series if you are okay with romance, drama, and mature topics.

If you like Harry Potter, you will LOVE Twilight and New Moon by Stephenie Meyer. And if you're a good reader, you may also like Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card.
