I'd like to know some 'book character costumes' and also where we can get them. As coming week is book week, children who are interested can come to the school in book character costumes. My 5year old daughter is interested in it. So, please let me know some ideas. Thank you.

well - the easiest costumes to get commercially (in stores) are the ones from very popular books, especially if they have been made into movies. Any costume store in your area - do an internet search for costume supply or Halloween supply, yes most of those places are open year-round - will have characters from Harry Potter in Stock, and probably something Chronicles of Narnia related (swords, shields, etc.) Harry Potter "outfits" are school robes with colors, scarfs in matching colors and a wand (sometimes a wizard hat.) there are good places to order them off the internet but you probably don't have time if it's next week.

Party America and other stores like that carry costumes too.

Putting something together at home might be more fun and be a great project for both of you to talk about her favorite book and what she loves about it. it really depends on what she likes. Pippi Longstocking is a great character because it's dependant on the freckles and the sticky out braids. Or you could put on an old-fashioned sailor dress, dye hair red and be Anne of Green Gables; or what about dressing up in a mouse costume and being Mrs. Frisby from "the Secret of Nimh?" At 5, she may not have read everything there is to read, but pick either your favorite book she's had read out loud to her, or maybe discover a new classic; you can look for either books with animal characters (ie; wind in the willows) or period dress books, or characters that have distinctive hairstyles (like Pippi, or Alice in Wonderland with her blond hair, bow, and dress.)

there is also the american girl series, which has commercially made costumes of all their characters. They're available at American Girl place stores (which are only in LA, NY and Chicago I think?) or online. If you are familiar with this series, however, you can put something together pretty easily, since it's the period dress of the girls that counts. pictures of all the girls could be found online.

You could just use a disney costume but where is the fun in that?
