I have a small azalea that I would like to grow in a pot, similar to a bonsai. Will it grow in a pot in Arkansas? If so could I leave it our year around? It is central Arkansas.

Sure you can. The thing to look out for is dehydration-- they are a woody plant so they don't do being too dry well.
Azaleas grow outside in central Arkansas, too. Use pine needles for mulch which helps keep the soil acid.
good luck

Yes! I have a bonsai nursery in western AR and I have several azaleas growing as bonsai. You are welcome to do a search for 'azalea' on my
website to see them:
http://www.american-bonsai.com and you'll see several. They will stay in the same pot for many years, but of course, you'll need to trim the roots and change the soil every couple of years, depending on the size of the pot.

You can leave it in the pot, but normally only for a year or 2 then it has to go into the ground. make sure it has plenty of water in summer and try to keep it out of the direct midday sun when it's the hottest.
