No one invented music. Music has been around since humans (and possibly even animals) have been around. Since then, there have been instruments invented, but music itself never was invented. It just evolved throughout the years to what it is now.

The answer to that is forever lost in antiquity. Don Martin from Mad Magazine theorized it started when man beat a stick on a rock. It made a nice sound. Then another cave man got annoyed and broke the stick with another rock. That made a different sound. Of course the first man got pi**ed and took that rock and bounced it off the other cave man's head! That made a third sound. Before you know it the whole tribe got together and the first orchestra was formed. Makes sense in an obtuse way!

The development of music among humans occurred against the backdrop of natural sounds. It was possibly influenced by birdsong and the sounds other animals use to communicate. Some evolutionary biologists have theorized that the ability to recognize sounds not created by humans as "musical" provides a selective advantage. (See animal music).
Prehistoric music, once more commonly called primitive music, is the name given to all music produced in preliterate cultures (prehistory), beginning somewhere in very late geological history.

I believe Adam started playing musical notes on his rib until Eve told him to stop because she was trying to sleep. But they didn't have CDs back then so no one knows for sure. I don't even think they had MP3s back then.
