How Should I feed my pet gold fish when im away on vacation for 2 weeks? Im thinking i should get an automatic fish feeder but i don't feel safe leaving that incharge, i will not know if it is working properly. If you have any knowledge on automatic feeders or anything else please help, that would be great! Thanks

That would be the best thing to do. They come in all sizes and even with battery back up. I use them on my tanks when I leave for extended periods of time. I have yet to have one fail on me, then again mine all have the battery back ups just incase the power should go off.

You can also purchase some live brine shrimp and put them in the tank with your fish. This will also keep him occupied plus he will have snacks to nibble on.

As MM said, test this for a few days before you leave just to be sure it is working.

If you still feel uncomfortable, is there arelative who can stop in and check on your fish? You can take him to the Fish store. Some will watch your fish for you. I do not know about Petsmart, or Petco then again I would rely more on my auto feeder before I sent my fish to them.

Even if your auto feeder only feeds your goldfish every other day, your fish will not starve. To ensure he will be healthy you can also lower the tank temperature (slowly) to around 55 degrees. If you don't have a chiller, just turn the heater off if you are using one. (again, lower it then turn it off) This will put your fish on the edge of Hybernation. He will still eat but he will not require as much food. He will be happy and healthy when you return. you can then slowly raise the temp in your tank.

A chiller is a wonderful item to have if you own goldfish and travel quite a bit. If you lower the water temps to 45-50 you don'thave to feed the fish at all. They go into a hybernation state. They will swim but in a very slow manner. They require no food at this temperature, just as if they were in an outside pond.

Go to petsmart and buy a automatic fish feeder. You put the food into a little container that sits on the edge of your tank and you can change the settings on it to feed them every day. Its very neat and saves neighbors from having to come over and take care of your fish.

To be totally honest your fish can go without food that long with no harm at all. It's really better in ways since you wouldn't be there to clean the tank anyway.

If you get an automatic feeder, set it up and let it run for a week or so before you leave to be sure it's working correctly.

Automatic fish feeders are a waste of money! you can go into a local pet store and they will sell holiday blocks you just put them in the tank and they will last until you come pack they are reasonably cheap and you can rely on it! Have a nice holiday! Good luck xx

Go to the pet store and get a dissolving food tablet. They come in all different sizes depending on the size of your tank and the amount of time you will be gone. super handy!

Generally, specialty pet shops will offer boarding for small animals, birds and even goldfish for vacationing owners. Ask around. If they don't they may be able to recommend someone - as can your veterinarian.
