Is it true? Where did that saying come from?

I would say its because you are thinking of your loved ones (good memories) and Worrying if you were good enough in life (bad memories) if your gonna make it to heaven or go to hell. (your whole life flashes before your eyes)...

In some way it is true,many have had near death experiences where they have looked back on the life they have lead.They see the wrongs they have done and the good times they have been through.When one is close to death it is natural to think of life-of unfinished things,of happy times as to not face the reality of their demise. The saying has come from such experiences where people who have been on the brink of death and made it back.They looked at their life in flashes of images.
I have almost died and yes I did see important snippets of my life pass by in my mind.
