Alright. I have to do an essay about the swastika. 5 paragraphs. Will someone please tell me if I'm off on a good start?
The word Swastika comes from the Sanskirt word meaning "to do." This symbol used to represent positive things such as sun, power, strengh, and even good luck 3,000 years ago. The Swastika also used to be used as decoration for postcards, coins, and buildings. It wasn't until 1920 that the Swastika was a symbol of hate, death, and violence.
In 1920 Adolf Hitler thought that the Nazi Party needed it's own new flag. Hitler chose the Swastika as the new flag because...And I can't find out why he chose the Swastika. Thanks in advance!!

In your first paragraph, you have the word " used " three times. I made a few other changes to to avoid over using the verb "was".

It looks good to me. Try to avoid repeating words like "used", though. Repetitive words are a bit boring, unless they're incredibly important or in order to get a point across, like defining something. You asked about strength and power, so...
When Hitler began killing off Jews, Blacks, handicaps, etc. it was because he wanted to ___strengthen___ the "true" German race- Aryans. He probably chose it for the same reason that sports teams usually choose something vicious- it symbolizes ___power___ and ___strength___. ___Strengthening___ the strain = more ___power___.
