Don't buy a new printer do this first. Uninstall all printer drivers through the control panel> add remove programs>your "printer software"and its ancills (ie Hp or Dell or Epson) Next reboot your pc..this really needs to be done for a safe re install. Re install latest software or driver that came with the pc or go to your printers website and download the latest driver and install. I suspect your driver has been corrupted this can be done without knowledge. (any print based program can do it. Also a quick test is unplug it from the USB and plug it into another USB socket. It will indicate whether it is actually physically working or not by showing you the message found new device ... then (name of your printer. Hope this helps.

Hi first check that it is plugged in and is in the usb as ive thought it was broke but i just had the usb port out. If that is fine try and it still doesnt work then put the printer in another usb slot and see if it comes on as it could be a faulty usb. If all this failed your computer might of disconnected it for some reason. Go to my computer then go down to scanners and printers if it doesnt show up then you might have to re-install them.

it could be that your printer is too old for your PC or that your PC is to old for the printer have you recently updated your PC...
You could also be lacking the correct driver for your printer...
If you had the printer and bought a new computer you may need to buy a more modern printer...
Your PC should be able to tell you what printers will work with it and what ones won't..
If this still doesn't help go to dells website and contact them...

Try turning printer off first - shut down PC - turn on printer THEN reboot PC - this often works when communication is lost.
This by the way is the proper way to turn off and on a PC.
