I used to use cat litter for my hamster and it never harmed them, it's even better for reducing smells. You could ask at a pet shop or vet just to be sure.

no cat litter
no ceader or pin
the best stuff for a hamster's cage is Care Fresh....100% safe helps oder and does not have anything in it that can cause problems. I am a hamster owner and will only use the best for Rascal. I used other things and it caused problems, even the vet says that Care Fresh is the best for your little guy. Please take care of him, mine live up to 3 years plus. Have fun with your pet

no, it could be harmful. plus, your hamster(s) won't like it. they like cedar, shredded newspaper(which could still be harmful with the inks, though I've used it before with no negative results), etc... they like stuff that is softer. think about it, cats don't have to live walking around on their litter, your hamster has to walk around constantly on whatever you put down in their cage, so you should make them comfortable.

The only stuff in a hamster cage should be cedar or pine chips, or maybe the new corn cob chunks. It needs to be something edible because hamsters chew on everything.
