Please don't try to lose weight! It sounds like you are on the thin side now. When you pinch the skin under your arms, there is supposed to be some flesh! Go on the internet and look at some pictures of girls with anorexia, prisoners of war, and concentration camp victims - that is what it looks like to have no fat/protiens in your system! Especially as a teen, you need this in order to grow in a healthy way. It is so sad that so many girls and women have such a negative self image - myself included. At no time in my life have I ever felt happy with my body - both before and after having children. Yet, at one time I was the same height and weight as you are. After my first child I walked everywhere, worked out, and was in excellent shape, but still always felt too fat. I look back on photo's of myself and realize what a waste of energy it was to feel so negative about my body. I have also know many teen girls who have become ill because of not eating right in order to try to be more thin. For example, my 19 year old stepdaughter has been hospitalized 3 times in the past 8 months because one of her lungs keeps collapsing - the doctors said this was caused completely by her being too thin! We'd never heard of such a thing but since then, after doing a bit of research, we've heard this is not that uncommon! Your body is still growing and developing (as is your brain) and it needs the fuel that eating healthy food provides. By all means, exercise and work out to maintain a toned fitness - but Sweety, don't starve yourself thin, okay?

At 5'4 and 103 pounds you are ok (you could probably stand to gain a few!) The point is you have to love yourself for who you are. Anyone who judges you because of the outside appearance is not a friend. Believe me, I know what you're going through. I was raised by a father who was very weight conscience. I've used some very dangerous methods to lose weight and could have killed myself until I realized that healthy diet and exercise plus a good dose of positive self esteem is all that i need, plus positive people around me. People are different. Nobody looks the same. Its those differences that make the world a beautiful place. Love yourself. That's all that matters. Love Cybermom!

I simply don't like the phrase "to loose some weight".
"To grow some muscles and loose some weight as a consequence" always sounds better :) First as a 14 year-old too I must tell you that 90% of all of us think they are too: skinny, fat, tall, short, the list goes on. That's absolutely normal...
So as trying to make yourself better even though everyone says: "You're absolutely slim" However it's really important to make sure you won't be looking into the mirror thinking "I'm too skinny" after a few months since you were doing the same with "I'm too fat". Exercises are the great way to become confident you're slim and still healthy. You won't loose anything anyway and you won't have a need to see the doctor because you were not eating since last Wednesday.

5'4 1/2 & 103 lbs.... are you kidding me? You're tiny girl! You don't need to lose weight! When I was your age (and no I'm not an old fogey.... I'm only 20 thank you!) I was 5'2 and 105 lbs. and I thought I was overweight and started to run like ALL the time. It didn't make me stark skinny, but it helped more I think with my self confidence and it made me feel better. The extra blood flow to all parts of your body make you feel better because it helps clean out toxins in your body faster than just being a couch potato. Just DON'T try to go on a diet or starve yourself! It will only slow down your metabolism and hurt you in the end b/c you'll end up weighing like 500 lb.s when your 40 because it damages your body. Just remember there are no quick fixes when it comes to getting healthy and losing weight.... it's a lifestyle change that must happen.

I went through the same stage in 7th grade (I'm only in 9th grade now), where I was unhappy with my body because when I sat down I got stomach rolls...which even the skinniest people get. I weighed under 100 pounds, though, and was maybe 5'3''. Anyway, I'd suggest starting a sport or taking dance class, if you really feel bad about your body image. I know everyone says, "Be happy the way you are", but I started ballet again and it makes me really happy. Exercising rushes endorphins to your brains, which are basically hormones that give you more energy and make you happier. Another thing: try to eat right...I eat whatever I want. I don't even want to eat fast food, but if you want to eat at McDonald's once a month, it's okay. Believe me, doing these things made my feel better, and I'm happy with my body now. (I'm 5'5'' and about 106 or 110, I think). One last note: muscle weighs more than fat, so as you work out more, you might gain weight as your fat turns to muscle lol.

NO you dont need to lose weight you're fine the way you are. Dont let other people tell you whats right and whats wrong with you, you're the only one that can judge that! And plus if you want to start loosing weight and everything at this age its not a good idea because a lot of girls think their fat and its only in their head. And sometimes it can get out of control!

You could work out if you want to. Don't go around obbssessed with your weight though, trust me i'm NOT thin and if you are always worried about your then 1 you'll gain more and 2 everyone else will be more likely to judge you by it. The fact is your weight isn't unhealthy and you shouldn't freak out about it. We're all diffrent. Anyway's if you just eat healthy and tone up your boddy should look a lot better to you. THAT'S NOT ALOT ANYWAY'S. Just don't become like all the star's. Most guy's i know think girl's that thin look worse then girl's with a little chub on them anyway's.

Dear Riya,
Muscle building by lifting small weights or cans of food would be a much better idea than a diet or weight loss program for you.
Research on the web how to build muscles for girls, but exercise like walking while pumping your arms would be good for many reasons. It lifts your spirits and tones your body.
Peace

you're an adolescent, you shouldn't be worrying about losing weight. I suggest you look after yourself, eat healthy, get plenty of exercise and don't be preoccupied with your weight. If you do everything and don't overindulge in candy and cakes your body will find its own equilibrium. Some kids need something in the tank for that final big growth spurt, so don't worry and eat sensibly.
