Answering the phone (properly, the way they show you), filing, opening the mail and delivering it to the right people. Collecting the mail at the end of the day and franking it with the right amount of postage (using a special machine).

Using a fax machine, doing WP with a PC, making tea (!) and maybe sitting in on a meeting to see what happens. Using databases and spreadsheets, emailing and photocopying.

That'll keep you busy for a week!

I'm an Admin Support - I've worked on half a dozen different sites across 5 companies doning different admin work - every day is different.

For work experience you may end up doing the lesser stuff like filing, photocopying, envelope stuffing etc but don't let this put you off as I also get to do a lot of research and stuff as well in my job.

I think doing it as work experience is definitely a good idea as it will put you above others that take school options or helping out with parents etc as an easy work experience option :)

i am a CLERICAL ASSISTANT and do so many different jobs, including post, filing, fax, telephone, scanning, prepping, indexing, lots of work via the computer, WE ALL TAKE IT IN TURNS TO MAKE THE TEA, EVEN MANAGERS !

GIVE IT A GO, A OFFICE CANT RUN WITHOUT PEOPLE DOING THE CLERCIAL WORK, THEY ARE USUALLY THE HUB OF THE OFFICE, WITHOUT THE STRESS.
