My 3 month old had a goopy eye about 2 days ago. Then yesterday the other eye was goopy all evening and I kept wiping it. It was swollen and gooped shut this morning. I wiped it out this morning and it was a tad red in the outside corner. It hasn't gooped all day, but the vessels look a little red in the corner. Should I take him to the dr. or just see if it is allergies and goes away?

If you are breastfeeding put some breastmilk in the eye 2-3 times a day. It will cure pinkeye no problem, if it isn't a lot better after 24 hours call a doctor

Otherwise talk to your doctor. Most won't see kids for pink eye but it may be different for an infant. At the very least they will tell you what OTC treatment you can use.

Generally, eyes do not get "goopy" with allergies. Any secretions tend to be thin and runny...like tears. Because of the goopiness, swelling, and redness, it probably is pink eye or some other sort of eye infection so you should contact the doctor. In the meantime, make sure you and other family members wash hands frequently after being with the baby as pink eye is very contagious...use anti-bacterial hand soap. If the eye is gooped shut again, use a warm, moist, and clean disposable compress to soften and remove the crusty stuff. Keep a close eye on the other side...if it is pink eye it is likely the other side will get infected too.

does sound like the start of pink eye. The difference between that and allergies is w/ allergies there is no goop. Allergy eyes can be watery, itchy, and red. You could call the doctor if their office is open. This is not an emergency but if does not clear up with the cleaning then you should take him to see the doctor when the office is open. However if he has other symptoms like irritable and crying a lot with or w/o a fever he may need to be seen sooner. Infants are more likely to have a concurrent ear infection b/c of the close proximity of ears to the eyes. If he is acting normal then continue to clean it out with w cottonball moistened with warm water. Always wipe inner corner outward. Then call the doctor when the office is open.

My 8 month old has pink eye right now. Pink eye will go away on it's own in 4 or 5 days but you can get drops to treat it if you want. It is highly contagious so make sure you don't let yourself or other kids come into contact with it.

hi my son had the same thing i think it may just be a sticky eye, it went away after a few days of bathing it with boiled water left to cool add in a little salt and use a cotton wool ball to wipe from the inside of the eye to the outside with one stroke, take a fresh cotton ball every time you wipe the eye

hope this helps

sounds like she does have it. It is very very contagious so don't touch your eyes after touching hers. She need a prescription medication to clear it up.
